NCWSA Competition Fund Policy Statement
The purpose of North Coast Women’s Sailing Association (NCWSA) is to encourage women to become more actively involved in sailboat racing through regattas and clinics, and to create a spirit of good fellowship among members.
In keeping with its mission, NCWSA has established a Competition Fund. The purpose of the Fund is to encourage our members to participate in competitive sailing events. Only one award will be made per boat/per year. A team may apply for funds no more than twice for the same event in the same year.
Applicants are strongly encouraged to apply for funds 60 days prior to their event. Applicants who do so will be notified of their award within 30 days of the event. A team member may apply for NCWSA membership prior to receipt of a Competition Fund grant.
The NCWSA Board will budget up to $1,000 annually for the Competition Fund. Four $250 grants may be issued each year, unless there are no qualified applicants, or no funds are available. To be eligible, a team must complete the appropriate application and return it to the Competition Fund Committee. The CFC will make recommendations to the NCWSA Board, and award recipients will be announced at the following general membership meeting.
If the event does not take place or if the recipient is unable to attend, the award will be returned to NCWSA. If no award is made during any year, the funds will not roll into any subsequent period. Any unused funds will remain with NCWSA. The committee retains the right not to award the four yearly grants.
The following criteria will be used in selecting recipients:
Priority will be given to those applicants who have not previously received an award. Competition funds will not apply to local regattas/events. Exceptions to the previous include district, regional, national, North American, world or US Sailing sanctioned championships being held at a Greater Cleveland area Yacht Club. Funds must be used within one year of grant date. Recipients are expected to report their NCWSA-sponsored regatta experience to the membership via an article in “Racer” and may be asked to speak to the membership about the event. Failure to do so will result in disqualification for future grants.
